Description
What: Fellowship Friday: Family-Friendly Action in the Time of Trump
Where: OFC Office, 1385 Mission St., #340, SF [map]
When: Friday, January 20, 2017
Have you heard of Solidarity Sundays? This Fellowship Friday is in the same spirit: a fun- and snack-filled afternoon with other families, engaging in practical, action-oriented civic engagement and community building as a Trump tonic. Engage in concrete actions your kids can help with, including:
- • read-alouds of children's picture books about civic engagement, social justice heroes in U.S. history, and civility (check out the Solidarity Sunday kids' reading list for some fun ideas);
- • writing postcards and making phone calls to elected officials;
- • making posters together that you can put in your house or car window (or brandish with pride at one of the Women's Marches the next day);
- • writing up your own family's "Constitution" or "Bill of Family Rights"
- • helping them write up and give their own Inaugural Address, completing the phrase, "If I were President, I would..."
Grown-ups can also learn about a host of things we can be doing to reinforce LGBTQ family community and resist attacks on them, including:
- • learning about the Bay Area Queer Antifascist Network;
- • looking together at Indivisible: A Practical Guide to Resisting the Trump Agenda;
- • finding out about who your elected officials are, why it's key to keep them well aware of your needs, and how best to stay in touch with them; and
- • building and staying in community!
