Description

Could we have earthquakes in Los Alamos? Absolutely! We have had earthquakes in the past, and could have more in the future. PEEC's Summer Family Evenings brings you "Earthquakes in our Backyard". Come learn about how, where, and when earthquakes occur around Los Alamos through a combination of discussion, cool images, and hands-on activities.

Presenter Emily Schultz-Fellenz is a geoscientist who has lived and worked in the Los Alamos area for 11 years. Originally a political science student from the very not-earthquake-prone American Midwest, she got into geology for free pizza and the prospect of getting paid to go camping. She moved to the southern Rocky Mountains in 2002 to perform geologic mapping and explore the history of the most recent earthquakes on a small fault system in northern New Mexico. Emily has performed field geologic investigations across the Midwest, Southwest, Upper Rocky Mountains, Pacific Northwest, southern California, and South America. She lives in Los Alamos with her husband, son, and two cats, and enjoys hiking and traveling.

No advance registration is required, and feel free to drop in any time during this program.
