Description

Melissa MackeyWednesday mornings in June, Melissa Mackey will take our children ages 6-10 on an imaginative journey of life in our Canyons, Mesas, Mountains, and Skies (CMMS). Melissa will use story, outdoor skills and group games to explore the wonders of nature that are all around us. With the kids, Melissa will do fire building and fire safety and read stories about early humans and fire. As they explore canyons, they will play with water and mud and will talk about erosion. Your child will ask him or herself WHY there are deer around our town and coyotes in our backyard.

Each week will feature one theme (CMMS), but each session they will talk about how the four are connected.

Melissa grew up camping and hiking and was a First Class Girl Scout in 1980. Her first experience teaching children was when her sixth grade Girl Scout troop “adopted” an orphaned 4th grade troop. Since then, activity-based teaching has been her passion. As an adult from 1988-1993, she created and taught outdoor activities and crafting fun for kids at Ghost Ranch, NM. For the last 9 years, she has been a Youth Services staff member in the Los Alamos County Library System.

These classes are intended for children ages 6-10. They must have completed 1st grade to participate.

Space is limited to only 10 children for each session, so advance registration is highly recommended. Drop-ins are welcome on a space available basis, however the class may be cancelled 24 hours ahead if the minimum attendance is not met. So be sure to register your child for this fun, creative journey to explore our Canyons, Mesas, Mountains and Skies!
