Description

SKYWARNAre you a weather watcher? The National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque is currently recruiting volunteer SKYWARN™ weather spotters and volunteers for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS). Meteorologists from the NWS will teach the basics of severe local storms to include thunderstorms, flash floods, downburst winds, tornadoes, and more. You will also learn about NWS operations, important safety information, and how to stay prepared, in this free class at PEEC.

If after the class you decided you would like to become an official SKYWARN Weather Spotter, you can speak with a NWS representative after the class. Weather spotters are the “eyes and ears” of the NWS and provide valuable weather reports, which cannot be replaced. Those interested often include citizens, amateur radio operators,
 CERT and Citizen
Corps personnel, law enforcement, fire, transportation and public works staff. Spotter reports, coupled with radar, satellite, and other data, has enabled the NWS to issue more timely and accurate warnings and statements for types of hazardous weather.
