Kids Rethink New Orleans Schools is a non-profit organization based on a simple idea: young people are experts on their own educational experience and should have a voice in changing their schools. "Rethinkers," as members call themselves, identify, explore, and come up with creative solutions to the issues that affect them most.
Since 2006, Rethink has served over 250 youth through a summer program, year-round committees and Rethink Clubs in 6 public schools. In the past year the Rethinkers have been featured in an HBO documentary, spoken around the country and presented a youth-led news conference about student wellness. We are currently focused on issues ranging from food justice to interrupting the school-to-prison pipeline with innovative approaches to conflict resolution. Learn more about the Rethinkers in this short video.
Chew Dat is our largest and most delicious fundraiser of the year. Teams compete in the style of reality TV cooking competitions to create dishes using a secret ingredient. The dishes are judged by a panel of youth and professional foodies and the winner receives a giant golden spork. When you donate to one of our teams you will be on the guest list for the event at Arthur Ashe Charter School on Saturday, December 14th. Chew Dat is co-sponsored by Edible School Yard New Orleans and Arthur Ashe Charter School. |
