Welcome to Sandy’s Five Days of SAF fundraising page!
I’m raising $1000 over the next five days for Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) and I need your help!
SAF is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring students and farmworkers together to learn about each other’s lives, share resources and skills, improve conditions for farmworkers, and build diverse coalitions working for social change.
I worked with SAF during the summer of 2008 as part of their Into the Fields internship program along with 30 other students from around the country, many of them from farmworker families. I spent my summer working to organize migrant farmworkers in the NC tobacco fields and build awareness in the community.
My SAF summer was an incredibly powerful experience, and helped me decide to start my career in nonprofit work with Latinos. I’ve stayed involved in the movement ever since, and I continue to keep in touch and volunteer with the great folks at SAF. Check out this list of their programs for more info about the powerful work SAF does with farmworkers and students.
As many of you know, SAF holds a particularly special place in my heart due to my grandmother’s work with them in the past. Joan Preiss dedicated herself to the farmworker movement for decades. I owe my interest in this work to her influence. Joan died a year and a half ago, and SAF does an incredible job of carrying on her memory and amazing energy in the fight for farmworker justice.
I’m running a five-day campaign from December 15th to 19th, with the goal to raise a minimum of $1000 to support SAF’s work. In order to meet my goal, I need:
I’ve started things off by making a $50 donation. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to support SAF’s work with farmworkers of any amount that is significant to you.

Peace, love, and thanks,
Sandy Preiss
