Hello dear friends and family!

This week only, November 17-21, I am fundraising for Student Action with Farmworkers!! SAF is a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring students and farmworkers together to learn about each other’s lives, share resources and skills, improve conditions for farmworkers, and build diverse coalitions working for social change.

My goal is to raise $750. Can you help me?
As Thanksgiving approaches, please take this opportunity to
give thanks and give back.

Why Give?

I am excited to be a part of this organization and I need your support!

I am currently involved with SAF through my social work internship with the Levante Leadership Institute. I am facilitating trainings and developing curriculum for youth and parents from farmworker families in Eastern North Carolina. The goal of this program is to help these teens get into college and become leaders in their communities!

I have been moved by the youth's stories. Many of them have suffered border crossings, adjusted to a new culture and language, and are part of families who are struggling to make ends meet. And they are only 15 and 16 years old! They are amazing, and I am enjoying getting to know each of them.

I'm writing to invite you to participate in Student Action with Farmworkers' Farmworker Awareness Campaign, a grassroots fundraising drive to support our work for greater respect and justice for farmworkers. Any donation is a big help!

Both sides of the border

In El Salvador, most people's dream is to move to the United States. Their family is in the U.S., they will have opportunity and everyone will have enough food to eat. I remember little Damaris, with her sweet smile, running up to me on the street and saying, "Jenna, I can't come to choir this week." I asked her why. "Because I'm going to the United States so my dad can work on the farm. But I'll be back!"

To visit the migrant camps here in rural North Carolina, and to see what people have immigrated to...
cement floors, isolation, heatstroke, pesticides, 12 hour days paying far below minimum wage. Is this the reality Damaris' parents are living now? Do they have a better life, with enough to eat? Will Damaris have the opportunities I have had: a safe home, the chance to sing and dance, or a college education?

Give Thanks and Give Back

As we prepare for Thanksgiving, let us give thanks for the food we eat, and the farmworkers who helped it grow. For sweet potatoes, green beans and corn... (Yum!) I hope you will take this opportunity to give thanks and give back.

My goal is to raise a minimum of $750 to support SAF's work educating the public about farmworkers. My campaign begins Monday November 17 and ends Friday November 21. To reach this goal I need at least 5 people to give $100, 3 people to give $50, and 4 people to give $25. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to support SAF's (and my) work with farmworkers and their families!
