Why a Memoir Showcase?

After working with memoirists for about five years I was just so touched by all the varied and compelling stories. As a therapist I had seen and heard a lot, but each month, I was amazed at what people had survived, how they had chosen to face their experiences head-on, laughed through the absurdity of life and almost without fail uncovered their inner strength despite unimaginable pain.

In all honesty, there was one really tough, painful, funny and uplifting day in memoir group when I was overcome with a profound respect for all of this collective courage – and I realized that often our group was the only witness.  I wanted to offer a larger platform for the memoirists to share their worlds.  When I found Jocelyn, our amazing director, I hoped an audience might experience some of the soul-changing writing that was fueling us all.
