SAQA Monthly Update - February 2017

Dear Jennifer,

Shipping artwork can be expensive. And that’s especially true if you live outside of the United States!

SAQA’s Board wants to make participation in SAQA exhibition possible for ALL of our members, so starting this year SAQA is offering to subsidize the artwork shipping costs for members who live outside of the U.S.

If you are shipping artwork for a SAQA exhibition, such as Layered Voices, H2Oh!, Abstract & Geometric, or Textile Posters, fill out this form.  SAQA will reimburse you* for your costs over and above the average $30 cost that U.S. members incur (to a maximum reimbursement of $70).

*NOTE: To be eligible, you must be able to accept reimbursement either via a check drawn on our U.S. bank or via PayPal.

Special Interest Groups

Want to connect with other SAQA members? Learn more about about a particular topic?

SAQA’s Education Committee has created Special Interest Groups (SIGs) as an exciting new format for SAQA members to meet and connect in live, interactive groups focused around a particular theme. Hosted on Zoom Meeting, SIGs will provide an opportunity for members to gather at a specific time to explore topics, discuss books, follow their artists’ journey, informally share their art and experiences, and countless other possible themes.

Unlike Webinars (which are more formal presentations),  SIGs use an informal, drop-in format that allows anyone to participate in this group, bringing questions and sharing experiences. Please note that these SIG meetings will NOT be recorded.

Mixed Media - moderated by Christine Chester
1st Thursday of each month, 11AM Eastern Standard Time (4PM GMT)
Next meeting: March 2nd

Book Authors - moderated by Deborah Boschert
3rd Wednesday of each month, 4PM Eastern time (9PM GMT)
Next meeting: February 15th

We are always looking for SIGs to reach out to new audiences. Do you have an idea for a group? Drop us an email at: groups@saqa.com We’d love to hear from you!

Layered Voices

Layers are everywhere. They become apparent when we plumb the earth’s surface, make archeological digs to discover the history of civilizations, explore human anatomy, dress for the weather, dig in freshly fallen snow, and count rings in the stump of a tree. Layers are abstract, too. We find them in language when we ponder the hidden meanings in novels, poems, conversations, and puns.

At SAQA, we help our Affiliate Membership organizations grow by:

  • spreading the word about their organization and events to our membership through publicity on our website and other online communications tools,
  • connecting member organizations with the art quilt world and a previously untapped target market,
  • sharing information on the latest exhibitions, trends, and award-winning art quilters, and
