Daily Themes

Monday, December 28: Sharks and other Ocean Predators

Did you know there are around 440 different types of sharks in the ocean? We’ll hone our math skills during fun shark length activities and learn about the cool adaptations these predators use to find their meals. We’ll get a chance to touch our live chain catsharks and make some discoveries about other ocean predators as well.

Tuesday, December 29: Whales, Seals and Porpoises, Oh My!
Learn about the wonderful world of marine mammals and what SSC is doing to protect them. We’ll go on a walk along the shore to look for seals and get hands-on with real bones as we re-construct a marine mammal skeleton. Have you ever worn a blubber glove?

Wednesday, December 30: Science Experiments meet Creatures of the Deep!
How are animals able to survive at the bottom of the ocean where the water pressure is crushing? How can they see anything down there if there is no sunlight? Through fun experiments, we will learn the answer to these questions, and more. This is a day for all you curious ocean scientists out there!

Thursday, December 31: Outdoor EDventuring
Come explore Odiorne Point State Park with us! Together, using our park map and a compass, we’ll plan a fun route that will take us to some of the coolest spots in the park. Come get hands-on with rocks as we learn some coastal geology and build awesome winter shelters in the woods.
