Galapagos Eco-Adventure

April 25-May 3, 2015 - SOLD OUT

Join the Seacoast Science Center for the expedition of a lifetime—a personal group tour of the Galapagos Islands with expert, local naturalists, April 25-May 3, 2015. Isolated from the mainland for millions of years, the archipelago of volcanic islands is famed for its vast number of endemic species that have no instinctive fear of humans. SSC Naturlist Henry Burke will lead you on an eco-adventure of a lifetime, where you will travel inter-island by boat to discover the fascinating social and natural history of Santa Cruz, Floreana, Isabela, and North Seymour Islands. You will:

•  Get up close to amazing wildlife of land and sea
•  Snorkel in a marine paradise of crystal clear water
•  Experience life in tiny fishing and farming villages
•  Hike in the highlands wh
ere early pioneers lived
•  Visit an active volcano
•  Relax on beautiful white coral sand beaches
•  See stunning lava-formed tubes and bridges
•  Enjoy private group charters and tours

Your adventure will begin on Isla Santa Cruz where you will explore for the Giant Galapagos Tortoise. Traveling inter-island by boat, we’ll head to Floreana Island where we’ll be greeted by giant colorful marine iguanas basking in the sun. We’ll visit a small settlement of fishermen and farmers and in Puerto Velasco Ibarra and hike in the highlands to see places where the pioneer people lived in very natural conditions.

On Isabela Island, we’ll enjoy the crystal clear water off the white coral beach and snorkel amid shimmering fish, sea turtles and more. Traveling by bus to Sierra Negra, we’ll visit one of the five active volcanoes and enjoy a magnificent view from its peak.

We’ll visit the marine paradise of Los Tuneles, a place where lava flow impacted with the oceans waves to form the stunning tubes and bridges. This marine paradise is known for white tipped reef shark, manta rays, parrot fish, yellowtail surgeon fish, Galapagos green sea turtle and the Galapagos sea lion.

We’ve chartered a boat to take you to North Seymour Island, a small, flat, uplifted island where you’ll be introduced to magnificent frigate-birds, blue footed boobies, gulls, land iguanas and playful sea lions.

No trip to the Galapagos would be complete without a tour of the Charles Darwin Research Center to learn about the important research and conservation programs taking place, including the captive tortoise breeding program.

Just pack your bags and leave the rest to us! SSC Naturalist Henry Burke will greet our group in Boston for our flight to Guayaquil, Ecuador and lead you on your adventure of a lifetime.
