Seaside Safari Summer Vacation Camp 2016

Grades 6-8: Stewards

Stewards is a field-trip based program offered during the summer only. Stewards spend the day immersed in nature, learning about ecosystems and how to become caretakers of the natural environment, or visiting other regional environmental institutions to expand their knowledge.

Steward sessions A, C and D are 9am-3pm, but start time may vary to accommodate for field trip travel time; end time may vary slightly depending on traffic conditions. You will be notified of any time changes.

Sessions A, C and D

Register for the Day: $70 members, $75 non-members, or
Register for the Week: $350 members, $375 non-members
Register for Pre- and After-care: pre-care $10 daily, 7:30am-8:30am, after-care $12 daily, 3pm-5:30pm

Session B: 3 day White Mountain Adventure, $225 members, $250 non-members

Your family membership must be valid through June 2016 to receive the member rate.

SESSION A
July 11-15:  Eco-Adventurers I

Monday, July 11: Team Challenge & Ropes Course at the Browne Center, Durham

Learn leadership and team-building skills while challenging yourself to overcome obstacles on a ropes course.

Tuesday, July 12: Parker River National Wildlife Sanctuary, Plum Island, MA

We’ll spend the day exploring this wonderful barrier island sanctuary, learning about the island’s ecology, watching wildlife, and playing fun games on the beach.

Wednesday, July 13: Eco-Surf at Jenness Beach, Rye

Help clean up a local beach and learn about wave physics while receiving a surf lesson from Summer Sessions Surf Shop! Wetsuits and surf gear are provided.

Thursday, July 14: Mt. Major Hike, Alton Bay

Mount Major Trail is a 3.4 mile loop trail and is good for all skill levels. We’ll discuss the importance of watershed protection while overlooking beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee.

Friday, July 15: Little Harbor Kayak

Join us for a leisurely paddle of the salt-marsh and bay at the northern end of Odiorne Point State Park. We’ll discuss salt-marsh ecology and enjoy a picnic on a sandy beach.

 

SESSION B
July 18-20: White Mountain Adventure (7:30am Monday–3pm Wednesday)

Hike in the beautiful White Mountains with us and learn about the NH watershed. We’ll be staying in the AMC Mizpah Hut and Highland Center. This trip involves moderate to strenuous hiking. Some gear and meals provided. An informational packet will be sent out upon registration, including the date for a mandatory pre-trip meeting.

July 25-29: Eco-Adventurers II         

Monday, July 25: History Tour of Local World War II Forts

Visit Forts McCleary, Stark, Foster and Odiorne, playing fun history games and enjoying the views from these historic look-outs.

Tuesday, July 26: Ipswich River Canoe Trip, Topsfield, MA

Visit the Massachusetts Audubon Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary and take a meandering paddle along this peaceful waterway, learning about the plants and animals that inhabit the sanctuary. Gear provided. Some canoe experience recommended.

Wednesday, July 27: Star Island Adventure

Steam out to Star Island to learn about the natural and cultural history of the island and the Isles of Shoals.

Thursday, July 28: Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve, Wells, ME

Explore the many habitats of this beautiful ocean-side reserve,
and receive a personal tour of the lab to see what research they
are doing.

Friday, July 29: Marine Mammals and Whale Watch

Come on a whale watch, departing from Rye Harbor, and discover which mammals live in the Gulf of Maine.

 

SESSION D
August 15-19: Kayak Week 

Come paddle Little Harbor, Great Bay and our coastal rivers. Monday and Tuesday are best for paddlers with little or no kayaking experience; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are for experienced paddlers. All equipment is provided.

 

How to Register

Registration for members opens January 15; non-member registration opens February 1. Join today and take advantage of our valued member benefit, as well as program discounts. Membership must be valid through June 2016 to take advantage of discounts. When registering online, first choose among the sessions offered for each age group and then complete the registration form. You may also download a printable brochure and registration form. Demand for Safari is high. Sessions fill quickly and spaces are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis.

Become a Member

Members of the Center are entitled to reduced camp prices and early summer camp registration. Membership must be active as of June 2016 to receive the discount for camp. Click here to learn more about all the great member benefits, join, or renew your membership. 

Camp Hours

Steward sessions A, C and D are Monday through Friday, 9am–3pm. Drop off begins at 8:30am. Session B is a three-day, 2-night session, meeting 7:30am Monday–3pm WednesdayFor an additional fee, pre-care is available from 7:30–8:30am and after-care from 3-5:30pm. Neither are extensions of camp activities; they are supervised free time. When you register you can sign-up by the day or by the week.

Campers are grouped by the grade that they are in currently or will complete in June 2016.
Ages 3.5-5: Treks 4 Tots
K: Periwinkles
Gr. 1: Sea Stars
Gr. 2-3: Green Crabs
Gr. 4-5: Seafarers
Gr. 6-8: Stewards

Each age group has it's own registration page. At the end of your registration, you will have the opportunity to register for other sessions.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations that are made prior to two weeks before your child’s first day of camp begins will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given after that time.

Camp Fund

The Center has created a Camp Fund to offer financial assistance to those otherwise unable to attend. We encourage your support of this fund; please make a donation when you register. Your contributions are tax deductible.

Confirmation

You will receive a confirmation packet by email. You can also print the confirmation packet, which contains guidelines and required forms, as well as the required medical health forms here. The health form requires your physician’s signature. We must have a current, signed, completed health form two weeks prior to your child’s first day of camp or your child cannot attend. Information pages and forms are available on the Programs, Environmental Day Camps page of the Center’s website. If the session you requested is full, you will be contacted and may opt for another session or be wait-listed.
