Safari Stewards Summer Camp 2015

Stewards: For Grades 6-8
Stewardship is the active care and concern for nature. The goal of this program is to teach students how to become responsible stewards of the natural environment through hands-on learning, interesting projects and productive outdoor activities. 

 

Steward sessions start time varies to accommodate for field trip travel time; end time may vary slightly depending on traffic conditions. Please check the start time for each session as listed with the description.

Register for the Day*: $65 members, $70 non-members
Register for the Week*: $325 members, $350 non-members
Register for Pre- and After-care: pre-care $10 daily, 7:30am-8:30am, after-care $12 daily, 3pm-5:30pm

*Session C, Thursday and Friday, August 6-7, White Mountain Overnight, is two days and is $175 member, $185 non-members. Session C is $370 members, $395 non-members for week.

Your family membership must be valid through June 2015 to receive the member rate.

SESSION A  July 6-10: Eco-Explorers I

Monday, July 6: Gundalow Sail on the Piscataqua River
Sail the Piscataqua on the Gundalow, a traditional reproduction of the flat-bottom gundalow barges that were once prevalent along local waterways. Educational, informative and fun, a sail is a great way to explore sights and sounds of Portsmouth, NH and Kittery, ME while sailing on the Piscataqua River.

Tuesday, July 7: Museum of Science, Boston   
Spend a day in Boston with us exploring this amazing and educational museum.

Wednesday, July 8: Ropes Course at the Browne Center, Durham  
Learn leadership and team-building skills while challenging yourself to overcome obstacles up on the high ropes!

Thursday, July 9: New England Aquarium, Boston 
Join us as we travel to the newly renovated aquarium in Boston. Our visit will include a behind the scenes tour designed just for us.

Friday, July 10: Eco-Surf at Jenness Beach, Rye
Help clean up our local beach and learn about wave physics while receiving a surf lesson from Summer Sessions! Wetsuits and surf gear provided.

 
SESSION B  July 27-31:  Kayak Camp
Come paddle Little Harbor, Great Bay and our coastal rivers. Monday and Tuesday are best for paddlers with little or no kayaking experience; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are for experienced paddlers. All equipment is provided.
 
SESSION C  August 3-7  Eco-Explorers II: From the Ocean to the Mountains
 
Monday, August 3: Isles of Shoals Adventure
We’ll steam out to the Isles of Shoals and visit either Appledore or Star Island, learning about the natural and cultural history of the Isles of Shoals.
 
Tuesday, August 4:Marine Mammals and Whale Watch 
Come on a whale watch, departing from Rye Harbor, and discover which mammals live in the Gulf of Maine.
 
Wednesday, August 5: Fishing Charter
Learn what fish live in the Gulf of Maine and try your luck at reeling some in! Boat departs from Rye Harbor. Gear provided.
 
Thursday, August 6-Friday, August 7: White Mountain Overnight  (7:30am Thurs.-3pm Friday)
Hike in the beautiful White Mountains with us and learn about the NH watershed. We’ll spend the night in the Carter Notch Hut. This trip involves moderate hiking. Some gear and meals provided. An informational packet will be sent out upon registration, including the date for a mandatory pre-trip meeting.

 

How to Register

Confirmation

You will receive a confirmation packet by email. The confirmation packet contains guidelines, camper information and a medical health form. The health form requires your physician's signature. We must have a current, signed, completed health form two weeks prior to your child's first day of camp or your child cannot attend. Information pages and forms are available on our website. If the session you are requesting is full, you will be contacted by phone or email: you can opt for another session or to be wait-listed.

Become a Member

Members of the Center are entitled to reduced camp prices and early summer camp registration. Cancellation Policy

Cancellations that are made prior to two week before the first day of camp will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given after that time.

Camp Fund

The Center has created a Camp Fund to offer financial assistance to those otherwise unable to attend. We encourage your support of this fund; please make a donation on the registration form. Contributions are tax deductible.
