Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals

5k Trail Race and Kids Fun Run

Saturday, April 25, 2014, 9:00 am

The Kennebunk Savings' Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals features the popular 5k chip-timed trail race and untimed walk through Odiorne Point State Park. For those who would like to help raise money for Marine Mammal Rescue, we are providing a social fundraising component with an optional personal online fundraising page.

Now in its seventh year, our popular Race follows the 5k cross-country trail route created by Jennifer Shultis, captain of Team Eastern Mountain Sports, 2006 US Adventure Racing National Champions. You'll run through the forest, by the rocky shore, across a sandy beach, and alongside historic military fortifications. Prizes are awarded in age and gender categories from 6 to 70+, as well as, overall fastest male and female for the 5k (must run in the <8 min. pace/mile to qualify).

Whether you plan to race, run or walk with a group of friends or your family, you can choose a team name and register as a team. Teams must have 5 or more participants. We encourage you to get creative with matching costumes and fanfare!

The first 175 registrants for the 5k, excluding free participants, will receive a free official race t-shirt. Race shirts will be available for purchase for $10 at the time of registration.

Back by popluar demand, the Kids Fun Run features a 300 yard dash and a half mile run for children ages 12 and under. Every child that participates in the Fun Run wins a prize!

All of the proceeds from the Rescue Run go to our Marine Mammal Rescue and ocean education efforts, but that is not enough. We need your help! Seals can't pay to be rescued so we are counting on our community to keep our Marine Mammal Rescue Team ready to respond. Individual and team participants are encouraged to create their own fundraising page when registering online or by following the steps listed below. We will offer special fundraising incentives; the more money you raise, the bigger the prize! But remember, every dollar makes a difference.

After the race, the festivities continue with music, a "seal of approval" kid's obstacle course, and earth-friendly activities that highlight the important role a healthy ocean plays for all life on earth. And, you can do your part and participate in a clean-up with Blue Ocean Society 11:00 a.m.

Take a chance on winning great gift baskets at the Rescue Raffle, at the Center or online now. Prizes include XXXXXXX.

Please remember that dogs are not allowed in Odiorne Point State Park. Children, age 12 and under, must be accompanied by an adult on the race or walk.
