Maia Stark's Birdathon Team

Hi! My name is Maia Stark and I am 12 years old and I care alot about nature.  I love birds because they make me happy - they are beautiful, small, but also strong.

With help from friends, neighbors, and family, I have raised over $9,000 over the past four years for Tucson Audubon. I have done the birdathon this long because I feel strongly about what the money supports - birds that are  increasingly threatened by habitat loss, pollution, and climate change. I would like, with your help, to work to protect them even more.

For the birdathon, you can pledge an amount per bird species my team and I find in 24 hours (e.g, 50 cents/bird). You can also do a variable pledge, like my parents did last year. They pledged $1.00 per bird species up to my goal and then they pledged $2.00 per bird for every species found above that. My goal this year is to find 90 bird species in 24 hours. Last year, our goal was 70 and we found 96 species. You can also pledge a simple flat amount.

On April 21 I'll go birding for the birds with David Bygott, Jeannette Hanby, Helen Kalevas, and my mother Lydia Breunig. If you support my birdathon team, I'll send you a report on our birdathon with pictures and a thank you note with a watercolor painting I made.

Thank you for supporting Tucson Audubon Society!

ABOUT Birdathon 2017

Birds have a unique, special, and different meaning to each of us. So too is each of our connection with Tucson Audubon Society personal and distinct. During Birdathon, we combine the love of bird watching during spring migration with support for bird conservation.

Birdathoners are birders and social fundraisers, joining together to make a difference for the birds and habitats of southeast Arizona. Birdathoners continue a tradition that has held strong for 30 years!

Each Birdathoner's personal network of supporters is what helps makes Birdathon possible.

This April and May, I'm going birding for the birds!
