Hi, I'm Audra - the team captain for The 3 Nestlings. We're really excited about being old enough to get to do a Birdathon this year. Last year our parents said 'No' - supposedly we were still taking too many naps each day and they thought it was a problem that we couldn't walk. Whatever. Now that we only need 1 or 2 naps to get through a day, and we're all cruising around on 2 feet like the adults, they gave us the go-ahead.

Won't you support our Birdathon team to help raise money for Tucson Audubon to help continue their work of protecting and conserving bird, wildlife, and important habitat in southeastern Arizona?

TEAM STATS

  • Average age (as of Birdathon day- May 6): 16 months, 6 days
  • Number of team members: 3
  • 2 gals, 1 guy
  • 6 fairly cool parents providing transport and logistics support (we really do appreciate it! esp the snacks)

Team member BIOs

Audra  Team Captain - I guess you could say that i started birding when i was still fairly young...maybe 4 or 5 months old? I've got great memories of waking up from naps and staring out the window at the feeders my parents moved closeby for me (only took a few weeks of insistent cajoling) - Lesser Goldfinches were my favorite...well, maybe Atilla (my name for the Greater Roadrunner that hunted lizards and grasshoppers in our yard) was may favorite - so fun to watch her hunt.

Anyway, i said "paloma" (that's dove in spanish for those of you not near the border) before i said "papa" just to prove a point, and to keep Papa from getting too uppity. Gotta keep those adults in line you know.

And now i'm really into it - keep tabs on all the birds (and airplanes, they're really just like big birds way up high) around the yard and the park across the street. I take pride in pointing out sitting hummingbirds to my parents. And when we're out camping the ravens paddling overhead in the evening are a special treat.

Athena   Hello, I am Athena. I have an affinity for owls and olive trees, but the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert and Sky Islands also delight me. My mom is always yammering on about the plants that we meet, and that's neat, but I am really curious to learn more about birds. Did you know that birds are "avian dinosaurs"? That's why I bring my stuffed dinosaur with me wherever I go, because dinosaurs are awesome. I guess that means birds are, too!

Parker and Audra and I were all born during the same week in 2016, and I am really looking forward to birding with them on May 6th now that we are all grown up.  Hope the 'rents can keep up!

Parker Hello, I’m Parker Bunting. My dad’s Zeiss binoculars are too heavy for me to lug around, but luckily my eyes are much better than his anyway. I actually have the uncanny ability to walk up to birds to ask them who they are. It makes it easier, being a Bunting, to talk to the lesser goldfinches and northern cardinals in my backyard. We all agree that doves and Gila woodpecker’s get old so I started venturing out to look for cooler species.

One set back recently is that t I started talking; I say “mama,” “dada,” “hi,” and “uh oh.” Which is cool and all, but now I can’t shut up and the birds don’t seem to want to listen to me anymore. I have since been working on my stealth operations, but don’t know how to ask my parents for a camouflage romper since it’s not in my vocabulary. Oh well, as long as I find my cousin Lazuli, I will be happy.

ALL for BIRDS, and BIRDS for ALL!

ABOUT Birdathon 2018

Birds have a unique, special, and different meaning to each of us. So too is each of our connection with Tucson Audubon Society personal and distinct. During Birdathon, we combine the love of bird watching during spring migration with support for bird conservation.

Birdathoners are birders and social fundraisers, joining together to make a difference for the birds and habitats of southeast Arizona. Birdathoners continue a tradition that has held strong for over 30 years!

Each Birdathoner's personal network of supporters is what helps makes Birdathon possible.

This April and May, I'm going birding for the birds!
