Welcome, , to Tucson Audubon's weekly update.

If you live in Marana, we need your help to monitor your hummingbird feeders for bat and hummingbird use. Details below.

Do you feel like searching for some "superflocks" of birds in the Catalinas? If so, Cliff Cathers invites you to join him. Details below.

Learn about birds, birding, using your field guide, creating backyard habitat,  and also about bats from world experts, at one of the workshops at the Tucson Bird & Wildlife Festival August 1317. You do need to register, and details are below. This is your chance to hear Robert Mesta and Steve N G Howell speaking in Tucson!

Our nature shops remain open all summer and carry a wide range of books, clothing, feeders, and optics. Enjoy some quiet and cool summer browsing in our peaceful nature shops. This week, why not try out that binocular you've been wondering about?

We can offer you free field trips, and a new home for your unwanted miter saw, and iPad. See below. And finally a date for your calendar: February 10, 2015 for Brad Lancaster and the Tucson Audubon's Seventh Annual Gala.

Meanwhile, can I count on you to be part of Tucson Audubon's $25,000 summer campaign to create oases for birds in Tucson. It's easy of course, just click here!

In three days, a migrating Wilson's Warbler can increase its weight by ten percent eating insects from just one native mesquite tree

Your special summer gift will help people learn how to create bird-friendly oases in their yards and bring more native trees, shrubs, and birds, into our community. Read our full letter and also get your Fast Wilson's Warbler facts.

Thank you for sharing your love of birds, birding, and the places they live through Tucson Audubon.

Welcome New Faces to Tucson Audubon!

Diana Rosenblum is Tucson Audubon’s new Membership and Development Assistant. Last summer, Diana interned at the Tucson Audubon and, this year, she was thrilled to discover that a position had opened for which she was well suited. Diana was excited to return to Tucson Audubon and Tucson after completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies at Northern Arizona University.

Welcome to Intern, Tyler Loomis

Hello All! I am a senior at the University of Arizona studying ecology and evolutionary biology. I chose to intern at the Tucson Audubon Society because of my passion for birds and birding, I've been a birder since the age of eight! I look forward to learning a lot and getting to know everyone over the next few months!

Tyler joined Tucson Audubon for his Summer Internship in early July, and will continue his Fall Internship with us over the next few months. He is thrilled to be here, and we are too!

Bat and Hummingbird Feeders Study

Volunteers are needed for a hummingbird feeder monitoring study. Participation by people living in or near Marana town limits is especially encouraged to determine the presence of Lesser Long-nosed bats. It’s easy and interesting to volunteer on this citizen science project. Monitor your feeder two or three times per week beginning now and continuing until the bats leave, measuring the level of fluid in the feeder just before it gets dark and again when you rise in the morning. Then input your data online or print hard copies of the data sheets and return them at the end of the season.

If you would like to participate in this study, please contact Ted Fleming at ted@sonaura.net

Learn more at marana.com/520/Bat-Study
