I'm running with Team SCIS/u2fp to increase awareness and funding for spinal cord injury research. I run in memory of my friend James's Dad, George Santos Servino. While on a hike, George suffered a severe spinal cord injury. After being transported home to California, he fought for many months to stay alive. On June 3, 2011, surrounded by family and friends who love him dearly, George passed away.
I also run in honor of my Dad's many patients who continue to fight everyday. My Dad is a clinical psychologist who does rehabilitation with patients who have suffered spinal cord injuries. I have grown up hearing their stories of perseverance and struggle.
This will be my 5th Marathon. I ran my first marathon with SCIS back in 2011. That was Chicago. I've done it a couple more times and Boston once.

Unite 2 Fight Paralysis and Spinal Cord Injury Sucks are proud to partner again this year as an official charity team for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Team SCIS/u2fp is a group of passionate, hard working runners and wheelchair racers committed to racing the 26.2 miles and fundraising to advance research towards a cure for spinal cord injury.
The team raised over $73,000 in the past two years. All funds directly support our mission: to cure paralysis through advocacy, education, and support for research. Thank you for your support!
