Working 2 Walk Speaker Spotlight:

Dr. W. Dalton Dietrich

Dr. Edward Wirth

U2FP is pleased to welcome back two speakers from our previous conferences: Dr. W. Dalton Dietrich, Scientific Director at the Miami Project, and Dr. Edward Wirth, Chief Medical Officer for Asterias Biotherapeutics.

Dr Dietrich will provide an update on the Miami Project's studies & trials using hypothermia, human Schwann cell transplantation, and extensive rehabilitation, to enhance recovery from spinal cord injury.

Dr. Wirth led the Geron clinical trial of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (AST-OPC1) that was suspended and then restarted by his current company, Asterias Biotherapeutics. He will report on results in the 5 initial trial subjects, and the start of a Phase 1/2A trial to test and evaluate escalating doses of AST-OPC1.

Working 2 Walk Hotel Rooms: September 4 is the deadline to book Hotel Reservations at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center; our block is selling out quickly, so don't delay. We have secured a special group rate of $129/night; please follow the instructions on our web page to get the proper accommodations.

Travel Tips: If you are driving to the conference, parking at the Bethesda North Marriott is complimentary for our attendees. All parking is outdoors. If you are flying, the most convenient arrival airport is Ronald Reagan (DCA). From there you can take the DC Metro to the White Flint station on the Red Line; the station is directly across Rockville Pike from the hotel, within easy walking and rolling distance. For arrival at either Baltimore or Washington Dulles airports, see the hotel's information page.

Updated Schedule with speaker dates & times.

Team SCIS/u2fp is training hard for the October 11 Chicago Marathon. If you've ever attempted a marathon, you know how important it is to follow a disciplined preparation program prior to the race. Our group of runners and wheelers is dialed in for the stretch run; they are a dedicated bunch, racing toward a finish line of recovery from spinal cord injury.
