Hello Friends!

On Saturday, March 14, I will be participating in the Mount Zion Half Marathon in Utah to support the Ulman Cancer Fund’s mission (of enhancing lives by supporting, educating and connecting young adults, and their loved ones, affected by cancer.) I need your help in reaching my fundraising goal of $400 this week! The race is only 7 days away, but I’m not worried because I have great friends that have supported me over the years with donations of various amounts. I need your help again. No donation is too small (or too large) so please consider helping me.

This has been a challenging year for me for different reasons, but my personal challenges do not compare to the challenges so many loved ones have recently faced – either battling cancer or supporting members of their family fighting for their lives. So I’m sucking it up – and getting it done!

As I write, I pause to remember all the loved ones I’ve lost to this awful disease. All the miles I’ve run, ridden, and swam in honor (or in memory) of friends. These beautiful people have helped me muster up the strength and courage to accomplish physical goals I never imagined I’d accomplish.

Their faces have been part of what has fueled my fire to continue to support the Ulman Cancer Fund’s mission (of enhancing lives by supporting, educating and connecting young adults, and their loved ones, affected by cancer.) An athlete I know often tells his slower than dirt friends (like me) before a race, “Control what you can control.” For me, that means that I probably will never find a cure for cancer on my own, but I can control getting behind and supporting an organization that does an amazing job of raising cancer awareness through sports initiatives.

I also couldn’t control the snow or cold weather this season, but I could control getting off the couch, bundling up in extra layers, grabbing some hand warmers, and getting outside to run!!!

If you still have not made a donation, I would appreciate one in ANY AMOUNT. My desire is to hit my fundraising goal in ONE WEEK. If you don’t have the means to make a donation, your prayers that my legs don’t fall off would be appreciated.  And if you have any personal prayer requests, email them to me today. I’ve been making it a habit to pray over my friends during my runs. It’s a new lent thing I’m doing. And it’s working. Prayer changes things. Period.

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults and their loved ones as they fight cancer and embrace survivorship. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide multiple support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:

• Cancer to 5K - a free, progressive, 12-week run/walk program designed to reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.
• Helping Others Fight - a volunteer program that provides basic services such as transportation to and from treatment, yard work, home repairs and delivery of chemo care bags to local cancer patients and their families so they can focus their energy on their battle with cancer and their well-being.
• Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support and resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.
• Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
