I am very excited to participate in this amazing trip. Unfortunately, cancer has had a huge impact on my life. My courageous sister fought her battle for eleven years, but in 2012 lost her battle. Through the years my family and I became connected with the cancer community. All cancer patients I have met share the same grace, and fight that I saw in my sister. When my sister was first diagnosed I was very young and did not understand the severity of the situation. Jacqueline’s strength and courage shined at every set-back she ever crossed. Jacqueline never complained and was always ready to take on the most aggressive treatment. Growing up, I wanted to be just like Jacqueline. I looked up to her in every way especially when she rode her horses. I watched Jacqueline fight for a normal life. Unfortunately the cancer had different plans. I watched cancer take away my role model, best friend, horse-riding buddy. I watched cancer take away her independence, ability to ride her horses and her dreams. Cancer, however could not take her knack to joke about anything and everything. Cancer did not take away her ability to smile every day. Cancer did not take away her humor, and ability to quote hundreds of movies. I hope to gain from this experience, and continue to be part of the cancer community. I hope to be able to heal and talk with others about their stories. I hope to gain as much as I can from this amazing opportunity.
