I'm Laura, and I'm so excited to be a team member for Key to Keys 2018!

I am a breast cancer survivor from Granville, Ohio. I am an alumni of Denison University, and I teach and write fiction. I  was diagnosed with stage 2a breast cancer at age 28, and I am two years post-bilateral mastectomy. I have an amazing medical team at The James, and I am now healthy. I am blessed to be doing very well. I celebrate every single day!

I am grateful to be able to give back to a community that has been so supportive and kind. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults has made such a huge difference in my life. The Ulman Cancer to 5k program in Columbus, Ohio helped me to get back into physical activity again after recovering from surgery. Being with others who understood, and feeling so welcomed, gave me motivation to keep being fit, and I have made wonderful friendships and connections through the program. I was so inspired by the 5k group that I reached out to other survivorship groups, and I am involved in Pelotonia, Tour de Pink, a survivorship rowing team, and more. I also now rock climb and play ice hockey. I wouldn't have had the confidence to get into so many wonderful activities if it hadn't been for the Ulman 5k. I love meeting and supporting other survivors. I can't wait to make more lifelong friendships through the 2018 Key to Keys experience!

Giving to my fundraiser will help the Ulman Cancer Fund reach even more young survivors, and will help support me as I cycle with my teammates on the 2018 Key to Keys route!

Thank you so very much <3

ABOUT 2018 Key to Keys

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:

Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.

UCF House - a “home away from home” to provide free housing for young adult cancer patients, and their caregivers, in East Baltimore.

Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.

Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.

Your donation will help make these programs and our mission possible!
