I am honored and thrilled to be a part of the 2018 Key to Keys Team where a group of dedicated volunteers will bike ride along with support drivers such as myself. Our journey will start from Key Highway in Baltimore, Maryland to Key West, Florida. The mission: to make sure that no young adult has to face a cancer diagnosis alone. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults is an organization who truly transforms and touches lives. Here is my story:
My son, Steven Hensle wanted to make a difference and honor his father who died from pancreatic cancer. He found and was accepted into Ulman for Team New York which would have been his senior year in college. But then something terribly wrong happened, he started to suffer severe headaches and learned that he had brain cancer. He fought courageously and Team New York 2016 and 2017 (both years) ran in honor of Steven and did so much to show their love to their team mate from care packages to letters, emails, photos and phone calls - Maeve, Skylar, Christine and the whole Team were incredibly supportive. They even attended his services.
Now it is my turn. To give back, to make a difference, to help others faced with cancer so they too know they are not alone. I want to finish what Steven started, full circle and to picture him with his trademark smile looking down with a big thumbs up!
Please consider supporting the K2K 2018 Team and the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. Let's make a difference together!
The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:
Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.
UCF House - a “home away from home” to provide free housing for young adult cancer patients, and their caregivers, in East Baltimore.
Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.
Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
Your donation will help make these programs and our mission possible!
