Hadiara Diallo, Director of Microfinance at Wells Bring Hope, knows firsthand about the challenges of life in Niger.
Meeting Barbara Goldberg and the Wells Bring Hope Team was a turning point for me because I now get to work with a dedicated group of people who are driven to provide life- saving wells and microfinance loans to the extraordinarily dignified women of Niger.
You see I am from Niger, and although I have not had to seek and carry unsafe water for hours, I have seen countless cousins and aunts go through the daily rituals of the women that Wells Bring Hope serves. These women do this without complaining. I urge you to help me reach the goal of $5,600 so we can drill a borehole well that will provide safe, clean drinking water for hundreds of women and their families in Niger.
Our sustainable approach to development also provides for 15 years of well maintenance and we also ensure that microfinance projects are set up in the villages where a wells is drilled by Wells Bring Hope and its local partner. In this way, the women who no longer have to walk for water can make productive use of their time by developing small business and contributing to the family income.
