The Austin Symphony Youth Leadership Council (YLC) is an award-winning program that recognizes Austin area teens who share a commitment to learning about leadership and supporting the arts in Austin. Membership is open to all Austin area high school students. YLC exposes these young people to principles in leadership through interactive presentations with successful Austinites from a variety of backgrounds. There are also optional service opportunities with ASO and WSL. Please note that you do NOT need to be a member of the WSL for your son or daughter to join.
Benefits of Membership Include:
- Four inspiring leadership programs per year, on Sundays at 4:30 PM. This includes one-on-one time with the speakers and social time with the student group.
- Community Service opportunities with ASO’s nationally recognized children’s education programs as well as WSL fundraising activities. These include Halloween Concerts, Children’s Day Art Park, Young People’s Concerts, decorating for the POPs series concerts and helping with the WSL’s Red Haute Valentine Party & Children’s Style Show. These volunteer opportunities are optional, and are offered for community service credit hours.
- Networking with other Austin area teens that share an interest in leadership.
- In the spring of 2017, the Youth Leadership Council members will be recognized before an ASO concert. A reception at the Long Center will be held on the same evening.
