This summer, whether you are toiling in Tucson, hiding from the heat in a cabin, or cruising on the high seas, there are birds around you. What a comfort that is. Thanks for all you do to make sure we go on living in a world with birds.

Enjoy this weekly update and, as always, contact us with your questions and concerns.

Some of the remaining assignments which we would like to fill can be found on our Volunteer page. It is organized by day and time for your convenience. These are all key roles. Though we have other opportunities available, please sign-up for these first!

More Hummingbirds! Sheri Williamson Keynote

Hummingbirds: Small Wonders
Sheri Williamson, Director, Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory
Tiny they may be, but hummingbirds know how to live large. Dazzling colors, "singing" feathers, huge brains, voracious appetites, continent-spanning migrations, and sometimes scandalous sex lives are just a few of the qualities that have earned these miniature marvels a devoted following far beyond the birding community. Includes a sneak peek at the forthcoming revised edition of the Peterson Field Guide to Hummingbirds of North America.
Friday, August 12, 5:00pm - 8:30pm | $65 per person
A ticket to the dinner program includes one complimentary drink ticket to use at the afternoon social hour from 5:00pm - 6:00pm in the Arizona Riverpark Inn lobby, a buffet dinner, and a seat at Sheri's presentation.

Pre- and Post-Festival Trips Still Open

Northwest Mexico: Madera, Basaseachic Falls & Yecora
August 15-22, 2016; $2650 per person ($550 single supplement)
This trip focuses on the birds of the northern Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range, a rugged and little-traveled area of Mexico home to a whole range of interesting birds, including a high number of Mexican endemics.

Alpine Arizona: White Mountains
August 15-19, 2016; $1595 per person
Thanks to the proximity of the White Mountains to Tucson, we'll have chances for many birds that normally require a separate trip deeper into the Interior West of the United States.

Bird Communities of the Sky Islands
August 7-9, 2016; $795 per person
Most of our time will be spent in the Chiricahua Mountains, the largest and most biologically diverse of the isolated sierras locally known as "Sky Islands."

Madera: A short trip for Sierra Madre endemics
August 7-10, 2016; $1200 per person ($220 single supplement)
This short but very special trip into the states of Sonora and Chihuahua is offered mainly to see the target species of the highly endemic Thick-billed Parrot and Eared Quetzal.

The audio quality of the CDs is fantastic, as would be expected of recordings from Cornell’s Macaulay Library of Natural Sounds. This set also comes with a useful booklet that lists all of the tracks, describes the songs and calls contained in each track, and where it was recorded.
