Supporting Seniors’ Mental Health: A Guide for Home Care Staff is the result of a national study conducted by CMHA in 2001 to assess the mental health needs of seniors and the role home care does and can play in meeting those needs.
It provides practical tools and check lists to assist frontline staff to support the mental health needs of seniors.
The guide looks at how home care staff can support seniors’ mental health by providing information and coordinating services to help seniors navigate home care programs. Strategies are offered to enhance communication skills, client involvement in decision-making and advocacy skills.
This guide was developed as a basic resource to assist home care staff who provide or coordinate home care for seniors, such as case managers, nurses, therapists, home support workers, community health workers, or care aides.
This 54-page book was developed by the Canadian Mental Health Association (2002).
